Walmart renews Gold Level partnerships with Women In Trucking Association

Plover, WI: The Women In Trucking (WIT) Association‘s continues to grow and expand its influence around the globe with the support of its members and Gold Level Partners. Walmart has been supporting this initiative as a Gold Level Partner since 2009 and is its longest top level sponsor.

Since 2007, Women In Trucking Association has accomplished a great deal in their mission to encourage women to consider careers in the trucking industry, address obstacles that might keep women from succeeding, and to celebrate the success of its members.

“We are supported by more than 4,000 individual and corporate members who believe in our quest to share career opportunities with women who might not have considered the trucking industry in the past,” said WIT President/CEO Ellen Voie. “With the support of Walmart and their influence as an internationally recognized leader, we have expanded our reach to assist transportation initiatives in Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Japan, and South Africa.”

Recent initiatives include an Image Team, which includes two professional female drivers from Walmart’s Private Fleet. Driver Carol Nixon gave C.R.A.S.H. member Ron Wood his first ride in a tractor-trailer after he suffered the loss of five family members in a truck accident.

The association held its first Accelerate! Conference & Expo in Dallas, Texas, which attracted over 350 industry professionals focusing on increasing the presence of women in their companies.

Women In Trucking Association, Inc. is a nonprofit association established to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize obstacles faced by women working in the trucking industry. Membership is not limited to women, as 16 percent of its members are men who support the mission.
