Local intermodal driver Julia appreciates the impact that the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) is having on the trucking industry and is proud to be a member. “They are letting women know it’s a choice… that truck driving is a possibility for women. They are changing the mind set of what can be a woman’s job,” she said.

As a Gold Level Sponsor, J.B. Hunt also supports Women In Trucking’s mission to advance the employment of women in the trucking industry and empower individuals like Julia to secure viable and lucrative careers within transportation. “Trucking empowers me to be independent. I don’t have to financially depend on anyone,” Julia said.

Fourteen years ago, Julia decided to shift gears from a low paying job to a higher and more steady paying career in truck driving.  “I was at a point at a low paying job and my ex had difficulty finding a job. I saw an ad on the back of a trailer. I went to truck driving school and drove team for seven years, then I went to local,” she said.

For the last seven years, Julia has proudly donned the J.B. Hunt uniform and made the rail yard her second home. “Honestly, I really love working for J.B. Hunt. My managers, their managers and their managers’ managers in the office, they will listen and help me, help all of us,” she said.

Julia’s hard work has earned her the Local Intermodal Driver of the Month award, annual safety bonuses, participation in a photo shoot for the new DriveJBHunt.com website, and more recently, the opportunity to attend the WIT Accelerate Conference and Expo. “I really loved it. Very inspiring, it really touches you. I was lucky that I got to go and so grateful,” she said. “My favorite part was the preconference presentation Survive Institute teaching self-defense and how to overcome issues with fear… it really left an impression on me.”

To drive with a company who supports an organization that encourages employment of women, promotes their accomplishments and reduces their obstacles within the industry, has made a permanent impression on Julia. “It makes me proud to be working for a company that cares about women and the challenges they face, as well as giving us the opportunities and support to be successful.  It’s one more reason I chose J.B. Hunt and will continue to be part of the J.B. Hunt family,” she said.
